Lancasterian School is Our Nominated Charity

FirstFound's nominated charity is the Lancasterian school in Didsbury. The school caters for children with a range of disabilities, many of whom cannot speak and who struggle to make themselves understood.

£20,000 needed for specialist centre for communication
The fund raising activites of Lancasterian school first came to the attention of Chris Bellamy, FirstFound's Managing Director who recently read an article about the school who are trying to raise £20,000 which will enable them to become a specialist centre for communication. This means they will be entitled to apply for specialist status, which would bring government funding of £340,000 over the next four years for equipment and specialist teachers. Many of the pupils at Lancasterian school suffer from speech problems due to either their medical disability or from a trauma. The funding means that the school will be able to purchase much needed computer equipment which the children use as a way of communicating.

We're building a new website and raising funds
FirstFound is supporting Lancasterian school in a number of ways. We are currently building the school a new website which in addition to being a source of information for parents, teachers and other bodies will be used to bring awareness of the school and of their fund raising activities. The new site should be up by 19 September. Staff at FirstFound are fully behind the cause and have already started fund raising. Donations and a 'dress-down' day have already raised over £400.00, with Chris matching this figure we have given our first donation to the school of £868.00. Other activities include shaving the head of one of the managers from which we expect to raise approximately £400.00, a football tournament, a quiz night and a raffle.

You can help too...
We have approached a number of local businesses for prize donations for the raffle and have had an extremely good response. City Inn, Piccadilly have donated a function room for our quiz night plus a meal for 2 and a bottle of wine for our raffle draw. Other donations for the raffle include cinema tickets donated by amc cinemas, Aerial Extreme have donated 2 adult tickets, GL14 have donated 3 months gym membership to name but a few.
